What has been the key to my personal success?
Being very clear about who I am and what I want.
Just what do I mean by that and how do you go about it?
The FIRST STEP is AWARENESS. Awareness can be anything from a nagging thought or feeling or a constant searching and feeling like that there's a hole in your soul. Something tells you there must be more to life then getting up in the morning, going to work, taking care of the kids, husband, the boss, the employees . . . Shall I go on?
Have you ever thought, "Is this all there is? Am I more than a wife, mother, sister, daughter, career woman . . . who am I? What is my purpose?
Almost every dream I've ever had has come true. The only dreams that haven't come true are those superficial wants that did not resonate with my true self. It all started when I began to believe that it was okay for me to have wants, needs & desires.
They started out simple and rather lofty:
- Be where I am.
- Want what I have.
- Go back to school.
- Marry my lover; and
- Be of service to God & others.
Of the items on that list, the only thing that didn't happen was that I didn't marry that particular lover. He died of cancer. Sharing that experience was the single most important event in my life. It changed me from the inside-out and led to the two others dreams coming true.
Why would I want to be where I am? Sounds silly, doesn't it? Yet, how many times have you been driving in your car all alone and rehashing an argument with somone that happened hours, days, week or even years before? Or how many times have been outside on a perfectly beautiful day and found brain clouded by worrying about something in the future? Being where you are is incredibly important. It's about being present to the moment which is where all your power is.
