I originally joined FaceBook to stalk my seven children who are spread out all over the world.  Later I learned that it was a useful tool for social media and internet marketing.  To tell you the truth, I'm not the best marketer on Facebook.  If you want an expert, see Mari Smith.  Even my friend, Deah Curry of the NoHypeMarketingMentor is probably using Facebook to market her services better than I am.

The thing about Facebook is that it combines the worlds of business and personal interests.  I use it for both.  As an online advertising medium, Facebook can help you target your niche market by demographics, gender, age range, location, etc.  But that's not what I want to talk about.  What I'm aware of is the unusual way that Facebook combines business with pleasure.  It is a social network where living life out loud affects your personal branding. 

Here's how I use Facebook:
  • Choose your friends wisely.
  • Just because your my friend on Facebook, doesn't mean I want your newsletter.
  • Don't participate in too many games like "What's Your Marvel Comic Book Character?"
  • Be careful with applications that want all the information about your friends.
  • Create a page for your business and use it wisely.
  • Use Notes to create a feed for your blog.
  • Use Facebook to connect with other applications like Twitter.
  • Don't try to sell me anything, just be my friend.
